A postcard from South Florida

For several years I have been fortunate enough to visit my friend in Florida while she is on assignment.  It’s sort of like spring break for adults.  After a long, cold winter it is a welcome break!  Sunshine and sand in my toes makes the winter seem far, far away!

Boynton Beach
Nothing like the surf and the sand to make you forget about winter!

Our condominium is located in Boynton Beach, which is close to Delray, Palm Beach, and Ft. Lauderdale.  This is truly South Florida at it’s best!  Boynton Beach has a lot to offer.  Whether you are a tourist or a resident, it’s a great area.  There are so many luxury homes on A1A it makes the walk down the beach a lot of fun!

Boynton Beach is situated in a great location in South Florida.  There are so many exciting cities located close to the area. Most are within a 45-minute drive!

Delray is one of those fun places and it’s only a short drive away.   It’s a happening place!  There are many fine dining options in downtown Delray as well as open-air live music venues, and the Seagate Hotel is a beautiful hotel that is located in the heart of the city.  At night people walk up and down the street window shopping, bar hopping, or just out for a nightly stroll.

Tramonti’s is an Italian restaurant that is located in downtown Delray.   It’s a classic Italian restaurant and when you walk into the restaurant you expect to see Frank and Dean having a martini at the bar!  I was pleased to learn that it’s an offshoot of a restaurant in Little Italy in New York called Angelos.  I’ve been there so many times.   It’s located right in the heart of Little Italy on Mulberry Street.  There’s nothing better in my book than Italian food!

Next stop on the South Florida express is the Seagate Hotel in Delray.   On every visit to there, I’ve met somebody from Kentucky.  Because Gulfstream Racetrack is close to Delray, there are lots of horse industry people who frequent the Seagate.  The hotel is so pretty and there’s live entertainment in the bar.  Most evenings there’s a piano player that is really fun.  Think about a cross between Elton John and John Legend.  You can bet that Sweet Caroline will be on the playlist for the evening and the whole bar will be singing along!

One of the highlights on my South Florida to-do list is a visit Sawgrass Mills Outlet Mall.  Sawgrass is located in Sunrise, Florida (which is very close to Ft. Lauderdale).  It’s like a mall on super steroids.  There are so many designers located at Sawgrass.  Whether it’s Valentino, Montcler, Diane Von Furstenberg, Dolce & Gabbana, Escada, Furla, Frette, Jimmy Choo, La Perla, St. Laurent, Salvatore Ferragamo, St. John,  Stuart Weitzman, Lululemon, Tods, or Neiman Marcus Last Call, the list goes on and on and on!  You can spend hours shopping and still not discover all the stores that the mall has to offer.

One of my favorite stores in Sawgrass Mills is called Century 21.  The mother store is located in NYC right across from the World Trade Center.  It’s a huge department store with big-time designer goods.  Many European brands are there including Dolce and Gabbana, Stella McCartney, etc.  They carry everything from home goods, shoes, to designer clothes.

Keeping with my Italian food obsession there’s actually a great Italian restaurant located in the mall located between my favorite stores.  The restaurant is called Villagio.  You can dine outside and people watch, sit in the sun, or just have a cocktail in the bar.  It’s fun and the food is terrific!  I hear the Happy Hour is fun.

Delray and Boynton Beach are a hop, skip, and a jump from Palm Beach.  If you want to see beautiful people, really nice cars, and a pretty town, be sure to go to Palm Beach.  Palm Beach isn’t the place that your grandparents hang out anymore!

Breakers Hotel
There are not many hotels as grand and as elegant as the Breakers! Photo courtesy of The Breakers Hotel.

The famous Breakers Hotel is located in Palm Beach.  The Breakers Hotel has a long history of being one of the most exclusive hotels in the world.  The Rockefellers, the Vanderbilts, the Astors, and many US Presidents and European nobility have all frequented the hotel.  It’s luxury at it’s best!

One of the trendiest restaurants in the area is the Palm City Grill.  Getting a reservation at the restaurant can be extremely difficult, especially in season.  We were fortunate, the evening we went to the restaurant we were lucky enough to get a seat at the bar.  Needless to say, the people watching was really good!

Our Uber driver was telling us on the ride back to Boynton Beach that there’s a party circuit in Palm Beach.  It starts at the Breakers in the bar called HMF, then it hops to the Honor Bar, Buccan, and Salt Seven.  Palm Beach has gone from a place for your grandparents to the young and fabulous!

If you haven’t spent much time in the south Florida area, you should try it.  The beaches are beautiful and there’s a lot to do and see.  Until next week!  xoxo
