How can you discuss Derby without talking about the hats? You all may know that I also have a hat company, Fancy Derby Hats. Over the years I have seen a lot of hats, including, the good, the bad and the ugly!
Many people start with the dress and then start looking for the hat. I think this is the wrong approach. Sometimes it’s hard to find that perfect hat, there’s certainly a bigger selection of dresses to choose from. And who doesn’t have a little black dress in their closet? It’s the perfect palate and most any color hat will work. Sometimes you want the hat to do the talking.
It’s also important for your hat to be able to be fun but also functional. There’s a lot of beautiful hats out there. Some hats you see are very, very big. It’s so hard to navigate around the crowd, talk to people and just have a fun day when you have a super large hat. I recommend that your hat doesn’t extend more than the frame of your body. Trust me, you will be more comfortable and still look great!
And the best tip of the day is always tuck a garbage bag into your purse. It doesn’t take up much room. I can’t tell you how many times that I was leaving the track and a huge rain storm started right after the big race. Garbage bags come in handy to save your hat when that happens!
Here’s my favorite Derby hats that I’ve worn over the years. Have a great Derby! xoxo
Several weeks ago I wrote a blog post about a David Bowie exhibition in Brooklyn, New York that was going on this summer and fall. If you are going to be traveling to NYC I have another suggestion for you!
Stuart Weitzman has been designing beautiful shoes for women for many years. Do you remember the pair of million-dollar shoes he designed for the 2002 Oscars? They were adorned with Swarovski crystals and were called the Cinderella shoes. He is credited with creating the first pair of shoes that were designed to provide couture fashion for feet.
The exhibit runs thru April 20th -October 8 at the New York Historical Society. There are over 100 pairs of gorgeous shoes that show the evolution of ladies footwear.

In honor of The Royals returning to tv this weekend I wanted to share with you a recent Princess Meghan style moment. I enjoy watching the young royals and their style. Because Princess Meghan is American it really makes it fun to follow her. Recently she donned a coat from JCrew. The bad news is the coat is sold out, but I’m sure they will restock soon. The great news is that the coat is only $300!

Everybody has seen all the Oscar fashions from Sunday night by now. There were a lot of blush colors, metallic, white and also some vibrant blues. The fashion and the jewels did not disappoint.
But have you seen the after-party Oscars fashions? There are many parties after the show, including the big Vanity Fair party in Hollywood. That’s a hot ticket to come by for sure. Traditionally the stars have a dress change and are ready to party. Here are a few of my favorites.
Gal Gadot changed into a lovely red Giorgio Armani Prive’ dress. Zendaya traded in her ho-hum Oscars dress for this va-va-voom custom Michael Kors dress (I like this a lot better!). Award winner Allison Janney wore a cool Brandon Maxwell dress, but the best accessory is Oscar!
Mary J. Blige was a double nominee and changed into this lovely Vera Wang dress. She might not have won as Oscar but she sure looks like a winner in this dress. Rita Ora always brings it to awards. The America’s Next Top Model host has great style. Rita is wearing Zuhair Murad Couture. Oscar winner Halle Berry chose a great dress to dance the night away in. Halle is wearing a Zuhair Murad mini dress. Wow!
Kendal Jenner wore my favorite glam party dress of the night. Of course, when you are one of the highest paid super models in the world you have your pick of designers! Her dress is by Redemption, which is a new label to me. Margot Robbie changed from a Chanel Oscar dress into a Chanel after-party dress. She represents the label well. Finally, Hailee Steinfeld arrived at the party wearing Giambattista Valli. Looks like young Hollywood was up for the challenge!
I love the Oscars. I mean the award show is a little boring but I love going to the movies and enjoy seeing who wins. And of course the fashion! The red carpet is my favorite. Sparkles, jewels, high fashion and Hollywood glamour in one place. Here’s some of my favorites. What do you think?
Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior and Gal Gadot in Givenchy are my favs. I mean wow! The fringe on Gal’s dress was awesome.
Jennifer Garner in Versace was a show stopper. The color alone was fabulous and did you know she was wearing $825k worth of diamonds! Wow. And Lupita Nyongo’s Atelier Versace gown was to die for. Just look at all the detail!
And of course you knew I would the love Viola Davis in her pink Michael Kors Collection gown. That shade of pink happens to be my favorite! Jane Fonda might be 80 years old but she can still bring it. Balmain never disappoints on the red carpet.
What was your favorite? xoxo
Recently I went on a girls trip to Ft. Lauderdale. The purpose was primarily for a little retail therapy but also to get a little sunshine. Snow and cold temps are ok around Thanksgiving and Christmas, but after the holidays I’m ready for some sunshine. Being stuck inside is a bummer.
So four of us decided to take a little break and fly down to Ft. Lauderdale. We got a super cheap airline ticket and headed down south for a couple of days. We also fit in a little fine dining and fun, but I’ll share that later in a separate post.
Have you ever visited the Outlet at Sawgrass Mills? I had been there but it was several years ago. Wow has it grown! It’s like a whole city of nothing but high-end shops and restaurants! Trust me I know how big it is because I walked the entire mall to get to a particular store. There’s outside, inside, back and front shopping. Neiman Marcus Last Call, Saks Off Fifth, Bloomingdales Outlet, Century 21, Gucci, Valentine, Prada Hermes, Montcler, I could go on and on and on. Here’s a link if you’re not familiar http://www.simon.com/mall/sawgrass-mills
You may know that Neiman Marcus Last Call is my favorite store. It’s like a treasure hunt every time I visit. Sparkles from across the room caught my eye. If I was a fish I would probably be caught about every day! I walked over and saw the most beautiful dress. It was absolutely something to behold perfect for the Oscar ceremony this weekend! Have you ever seen an $19,000 dress? It was over the top and awesome! The dress was 65% off the lowest price which made it certainly more reasonable. Unfortunately, it was a size 4, which was absolutely a no-go for me! Check it out.
The photo doesn’t do the dress justice. It was fabulous. Even though I wasn’t able to squeeze into the above dress I was able to find some great things. You might see one at Derby this year!
Happy Shopping! xoxox
I’m sure that you have been seeing designers such as Gucci, Celine, Balenciaga and even Target showing pajamas that are to be worn in the daytime. Dayjammies (that’s my name for them) have been seen all over New York Fashion Week and also Paris Fashion Week. I love all the bright colors and the satin fabric, but I’m not quite sure about wearing these outfits during the day. I’m all for comfort and soft fabric but I’m just not sure about these. What do you think? xoxoxo
I received an invitation to a grand opening for a new business in town. Yudofsky Fur and Leather has recently opened in the Summit Shops in Lexington
You may know that I grew up in Frankfort. Some of my fondest memories were family shopping trips to Louisville. You see poor Frankfort didn’t have any shopping. Mom and Dad loved to shop so we would travel to Louisville on the weekend. Our destination was Oxmoor Mall, about an hour away from our house. Yudofsky Furriers began in 1925 in Louisville. My mother purchased her coats from there and that’s also where mine came from. So needless to say, I’ve got a little history with the store. I’ll never forget seeing Mr. and Mrs. Yudofsky being in the store and paying attention to every detail. They were truly experts.
When I walked in I couldn’t believe how fabulous it was. Light walls, light floors and gleaming stainless steel racks hanging from the ceiling made this store look very modern and fresh. A friendly gentleman greeted everyone at the door with a coat check. Stylish patrons were admiring both the coats and clothing. You see, Yudofsky not only has fur and leather coats, but also ready to wear. Models were walking throughout the store wearing lovely dresses and coats. Prosecco with berries and white wine was served along delicious appetizers. Ladies and gentlemen, these folks know how to host a lovely party!
Wouldn’t the dresses below be fantastic for Keeneland and Derby?
Along with beautiful dresses are a selection of coats that will suit everyone. Fur, leather and coats of luxurious material can be found in the store. If you don’t wear fur, don’t worry, they have something for you. Yudofsky also offers restyling and repair of coats on site as well as a fur vault for storing coats in summer months.
Yudofsky Fur and Leather is a great new addition to Lexington. I know you will love it! xoxo
Hello, I mean what girl doesn’t love a crown! I saw this slideshow from Veranda magazine and wanted to share. We’ve got a lot to do before the wedding next May! Dreams do come true, I wonder which one Meghan will wear? Xoxox
